STILL POINT
I began this FIRST-EVER mosaic, Still Point, during a sleepless week hiding away in my barn studio, barely remembering to stop to eat. All hail ADHD! My husband took our 3 kids to Moab and I took a deep dive with this self-taught abstract. I was lit up by the whole process: the combination and juxtaposition of traditional (Byzantine) Smalti with found/natural stones, the tactile nature of cutting each piece of tesserae using traditional tools/hammer and hardie, and by my first experience of what I would learn is called, ‘flow state.’
I was honored when SAMA -(Society of American Mosaic Artists) chose ‘Still Point’ to be in their International Juried art show, Opus Veritas —“Fragments of Truth” in San Francisco in 2004.
