MATERIALS
I have been enamored of smalti since I first learned it existed - in 2000! I chanced upon mosaics from a trifecta of ‘maestri’ in Ravenna, Italy: Marco Bravura, Luciana Notturni and Marco de Luca and had my mind blown by what I was seeing. I could tell from photographs that this material and this medium was for me! Since then, I’ve ‘branched out’ and included all nature of materials in my mosaics, often having much of the fun gathering them.
INSPIRATION
I am fed by the exquisite patterns in nature. I will never be able to create something as elementally beautiful as what I can see in just about any natural landscape. I am forever seeing design and pattern in the mountains or underwater.
